1. Education or a Rat Race.
IS EDUCATION REALLY A RAT RACE IN INDIA?
Being a student you must have been in situations where one of your friends was praised everywhere and was given the utmost priority in school, even your parents did not leave any chance to compare you both and eventually they would praise him. The reason is your friend scored much higher marks than you and also he stood up to their expectations.
Have you ever wondered why? Why is your friend given that much importance by everyone? Is it because he is scoring high in exams?
Well YES, and the reason behind this is that we have an examination system, not an education system that believes in “The Rat Race”, the rat race of the education system.
It was proposed for the development of a child in respect to their morality, humanity, honesty, character health however it is now more inclined towards the race of scoring points in exams rather than skills. Students are supposed to pass the exams with 90-95% marks no matter if they read and cram the book. In fact, it doesn’t even matter if they don’t have a proper understanding of what they are studying. 10 Major Education Problems in India.

2. Faulty Education Policies.
The Indian education system is in a state of dilemma!!
Pranab Mukherjee did not mince his words before saying that the Indian education system needs immediate improvement.
Several surveys have revealed that Indian students may be educated but they are not employment-ready.
Several policies are launched every now and then but they all turn out to be faulty. Let’s take the example of the ‘Grade point system’
Grade Point System was introduced for class 10Th in 2011 with an aim to reduce the stress for students. Under this policy, board exams were given as an option to the students, it was up to them if they wanted to either give board exams or not. If not then their performance was to be assessed by the school, but the scorecards were issued by the CBSE. Different schools used different criteria’s for evaluation, There was no common standard of grading the students a bright student in one school, where the evaluation was stricter, got fewer marks as on the other side, an average student in another school got more marks.
3. Too Much Insularity Rather than Global Outlook
“Stress on nationalism”
When the world is moving towards globalization, it’s vital to match our education system with the other countries and design it in such a manner that it gives students a feeling of being diverse, rather than hostile.
It’s good to love your country but we need to raise ourselves beyond the fact that you love your country because loving your country and diversity are two different things there is no harm in learning about others cultures too but undeniably Students are not able to get a global outlook because our education system which lays too much stress on nationalism.. 10 Major Education Problems in India.
4. Lack of Vocational or Job-Oriented Education
With the increase in population, there is a lack of employment. There is a direct relationship between employment problems and population growth. You will be shocked to know almost two lakh applications were received against 200 vacancies for IV grade position (for which the education requirement was Class 10) and most of the applicants were MBA, Engineers, M.Com etc.
Imagine how unfortunate a situation our graduates and post-graduates are facing, even if it is not their fault. Our education system doesn’t include courses and skills which are relevant to the job market.
5. Unmanageable Classrooms
Every school can inhabit a limited number of students but as India is ranked second for its high population in the world, schools are overly crowded. Psychologists suggest that the students learn well in small groups. Don’t be surprised to see that there are 10 sections, and each section has about 50 students. Schools are not about giving education but earning profits, they have made it a business.
6. Reservations
The education policies tend to look at decreasing the gap between various communities by providing reservations for socially and economically deprived classes.
In a Supreme Court judgment, it was held that there would be 25 per cent reservation in all the schools in Delhi. The purpose of this move was to introduce “social extensiveness in primary education”, except in unassisted smaller institutions. The provision was for the disadvantaged groups and weaker sections of society.
The Indian government has decided to increase the reservation seats by 27% at all levels of technical education.
7. Inefficient and Untrained Teachers
The situation is very dishonourable.
Teachers plant the seeds of knowledge among students.
Present-day teachers, themselves need a teacher to get training on how to teach. The qualification needed to become a teacher is B.Ed. In order to escape from paying high salaries, several schools in rural areas or private schools recruit those individuals who neither possess a degree of B.Ed. nor the expertise in subjects as teachers.
8. Inadequate and Improper Distribution of Funds
Hampers the availability of learning materials and books
The funds allocated to the education sector are inadequate to meet the goals and requirements. Moreover, even the available funds are not being used properly.
According to research, almost thirty per cent of the total allocated education funds are shared out to higher education, leaving primary education in a loophole. Lack of funds also
9. Demand for Teachers Exceeds the Supply
There is also a shortage of teachers which is another major problem.
The teacher-student ratio is unbalanced. A single teacher is supposed to educate almost 50 students so each and every student doesn’t get equal attention. And as the state approves a high student-teacher ratio, several schools do not hire more teachers.
The situation is worst in rural areas most of the teachers refuse to teach in such areas where education is highly needed.
Secondly, the salary in rural areas is also insufficient.
10. High Fees
Most of the talented students fail to fulfil their dreams of becoming a doctor or engineer, just because of the higher fees associated with these courses. Besides tuition fees and several other fees (like application form fee, entrance exam fee, etc.) are also charged and a poor but brilliant student can’t even dream of acquiring higher education.
